Things to know about the ewimed drainage system
You are a family doctor and would like to learn more about our system and the care concept behind it - for the optimal care of your patients? Here we would like to provide you with interesting information about permanent drainage, the catheter and the associated procedures.
Who is the ewimed drainage system suitable for?
Patients suffering from malignant tumors and patients with liver cirrhosis or heart failure, for example, often suffer from accompanying symptoms such as recurrent pleural effusions and ascites. This is followed by symptoms such as shortness of breath, pain and fatigue, which severely restrict patients in their daily lives.
Depending on the underlying disease and the patient’s condition, the implantation of a catheter can alleviate these symptoms and significantly improve the quality of life.
Implantation is a minimally invasive procedure that has been performed in Germany for many years. The catheter is a soft, flexible silicone tube. After implantation, the catheter can be left in place permanently and does not need to be replaced regularly.
The catheter is placed so that the part inside the body can drain the effusion to the outside. There is a polyester cuff on the catheter that fuses with the tissue under the skin, preventing the catheter from accidentally slipping or being pulled out. At the non-implanted end, the catheter has a safety valve to which a drainage set is temporarily connected to drain the effusion.
We focus on the safety of the patient! The key-lock principle eliminates misconnections and increases patient safety.
How do we care for your patient?
After implantation, your patient can be discharged home. He will receive personal and individual training from our training staff as part of our follow-up care, so that subsequently the drainage can be carried out without any problems by himself, his relatives or a nursing service. This saves him regular visits to the clinic for punctures and allows him to spend more time with his family and friends. If no drainage is performed, the catheter is connected using the dressing material provided and can be worn inconspicuously and comfortably under clothing.

Draining is very easy with the drainage system. I had to go to the emergency room 2 times before and be punctured, that is no longer necessary. I really panicked every time I ran out of air.
