ewimed

On April 1, 1991, Egon Wiest became self-employed on a part-time basis and founded the medical technology company ewimed. At that time, the focus was on the distribution of medical equipment such as surgical instruments.

Drainage products

For eleven years, until the autumn of 2002, the company was managed in this manner. After a one-year stay abroad in the USA and the experience gained there, Egon Wiest decided to devote himself fully to the sale of medical drainage products and his company ewimed.

In 2003 , ewimed was given the opportunity to take over the sales representation for Denver Biomedical®, in the field of drainage by means of indwelling catheters, on the German market. This form of patient care for recurrent pleural effusions and ascites was at a completely new concept.

Ascites

After a successful one-year test phase with renowned German hospitals, Egon Wiest began to focus his activities on the drainage of pleural effusions and ascites. Other clinics were quickly added to the initial test clinics. At that time, Egon Wiest, worked on the sales and customer service side of the business while Lotta his wife, supported the administration. The medical specialties where the PleurX™ catheter was used at that time ranged from thoracic surgery, pneumology and gastroenterology to oncology and visceral surgery, gynecology and cardiology. 

Very early on, Egon identified the need for patient training. From then on, every new patient was trained by the ewimed training staff. This ensured the correct handling of the drainage systems and the ewimed supply concept was born.

fenik AB in Sweden

In this year the company also started to build up its foreign activities. fenik AB in Sweden became a trading partner of ewimed.

Due to the rapidly growing number of patients implanted with a PleurX™ catheter for the drainage of pleural effusions and ascites, the concept of patient education is being expanded. The number of training employees continued to rise.fenik AG took over sales in Switzerland in the same year.

More and more clinics

Just as the number of clinics throughout Germany now served by ewimed increased, so did the number of employees. In 2012, the company had 20 employees.

At the beginning of 2015, the new company building in Dorfstraße 24 was occupied and further jobs were created at the location in Hechingen-Boll.

Due to the steady growth of the past years, our space requirements increased. The signs for the coming year are also pointing to growth, and we want to be prepared for this.

The first apprentices

With the emergence of specialized departments and further growth in the number of employees, ewimed initiated efforts to become socially responsible towards society and enable young people to enter professional life within the framework of an apprenticeship. In 2016, the first two apprentices were hired as industrial clerks. 

The Product Management / Development and Quality Management departments were expanded and housed together with the Purchasing department in the second administrative building, in Josef-Baur-Straße in Hechingen-Boll.The drainova® reservoir with soft vacuum from ewimed was launched on the market. It offers both high flow rates and gentle drainage of pleural effusions and ascites.

2019
ewimed becomes a limited liability company

The company changes its name from sole proprietorship to GmbH (limited liability company) and from this on calls itself ewimed GmbH. 

Today, ewimed GmbH has around 250 employees at the Hechingen-Boll site. It includes the sales representatives and training staff based throughout Germany, who are also represented throughout the country. 

The patient is in the foreground. This view is firmly anchored in ewimed's corporate culture and is also lived by everyone. Our employees are committed to doing great work every day and their advancement is very close to our hearts. Likewise, respect and exchange among each other is important to us. New ideas emerge in the team and goals are achieved more easily together.

The success proves him right, this year also saw strong growth for the company.

In Hungary, our service concept goes beyond home care. The ewiCare medical center private clinic in Budapest cares for patients with recurrent pleural effusions or ascites from the preliminary examination to implantation and home drainage.

Planning for new company building

ewimed plans a major construction project to meet the greater logistics needs and continue to have space for growing departments and provide large-scale care to customers and patients. 

The first ewimed Report 2022 was published at the beginning of the year. This provides an overview of the field of pleural effusion and ascites, their treatment options and current study results for treating physicians, healthcare professionals and interested parties.
Our trading partners fenik AB and fenik AG changed their names to ewimed Sweden AB and ewimed Switzerland AG. To date, ewimed is represented in five countries and continues to grow.
At the end of the year, ewimed started construction work for the new “fundera business forum” in Nasswasen with the official groundbreaking ceremony. The construction project includes an innovative logistics center, a modern office infrastructure embedded in an appealing garden area, a cafeteria as well as a coworking space and a conference center.

ewimed expands further in Northern Europe and establishes ewimed Denmark A/S. ewimed is now represented with a total of six locations in Europe.
