When is a catheter implanted?

Pleural effusions (accumulation of effusions in the pleural cavity) or ascites (accumulation of effusions in the abdominal cavity) may be associated with, for example, malignant or non-malignant tumors or liver cirrhosis. Due to the effusion, the patient often suffers from shortness of breath, pain and fatigue.
This is where the ewimed drainage systems provide a solution! The patient can drain the effusion independently or with the help of caregivers to relieve discomfort.

The drainage system

Our drainage systems mainly consist of 2 parts:
1. The catheter is implanted in a minimally invasive procedure.
2. A drainage set is connected to the catheter for drainage and then removed.

How do we assist in the care of the patient?

1-2 days after the patient is discharged from the hospital, an ewimed training representative will contact you to schedule the training. During the training, the patient and caregivers receive an individual introduction to the handling of our drainage systems.
Whether the training employee contacts you, the patient or the patient’s relatives, depends on the contact data that the hospital passed on to us at the time of discharge.
